Program Options

1.  A Trusted Source. (Choices Made: Difficult Choices to Come. - We can use history to help determine our current choices.)
Students will learn how to recognize primary sources by examining items from SHM's collections such as letters, journals, oral histories and documents. Suitable for grades 5-6th.

2.  Only One Suitcase. (We Are All Connected. - There are more similarities to each other than difference.)
Immigrants arrived in the US with few possessions--one trunk or suitcase that held all of their belongings. Using an empty suitcase, Students will be asked to consider what would they pack for a move to another country.

3. History is Trash. (I Am History. - What we do every day is history. Everything we have done prior to today influences what we do today. We make history each day.)
Students will carefully remove, set out and examine trash. By studying what humans throw away students will learn what archaeologists learn from what we leave behind.
