Sept 20 – Mary Bakeman, "Widows and Orphans from the Dakota War: Opportunities and Obstacles"
The short war came as a surprise and left behind unexpected issues for survivors. We will explore some of the decisions that were necessary for them to recover their lives.
Now retired from the active book business, Mary continues to seek out untold stories. She has been researching Minnesota history and families for more than 30 years. Her interest in the aftermath of the Dakota War of 1862 grew from her work in editing the Minnesota Genealogical Journal, where she published transcriptions of little-known resources, and Minnesota’s Heritage: Back to the Sources, which included a focus on that event.
Oct 18 – Stories from Our "Out-of-State” Members
Some members live out-of-state and don’t get to our regular meetings. But when asked to share their family histories and stories, they were enthusiastic and willing. Their stories will be presented at this meeting. We're sure participants will find family connections with their surnames and families in the St. Cloud, Minnesota, area.
Come to hear the stories and bring along your friends who could be related.
Nov. 15 – Bob Torborg, "Family History in Photos"
Bob will discuss a variety of topics related to family photographs and other historical images. He will help with identifying the timelines shown in the photos, negatives and slides. He also will discuss how to best store, share, convert, edit and print your photos.
Bob developed a serious interest in photography while at DeZurik and has many years of experience and practice in this field.
Bring in a treasured photo or two. Bob might use your picture in his demonstration.
