St. Cloud Area Genealogists

We are a non-profit organization that strives to make your family history research an enriching and rewarding experience.  Our monthly meetings include guest speakers who provide educational presentations to teach ways to prepare a research plan, how to evaluate evidence, techniques to discover online and non-digitized resources, and so much more.

The St. Cloud Area Genealogists meet the third Tuesday of the month - January - May and September - November at the Stearns History Museum.  Meetings start at 7:00 pm.  Cost: Free will donation for non-members.

For more information, contact St. Cloud Area Genealogists Librarian Dan Schroeder at gancho3@msn.com or (320) 685-3629.

Upcoming Meetings

January 15, 2019  Finding Family Through DNA by Gretchen Leisen.

She will explain how to find relatives through DNA testing. Various DNA tests including Ancestry, FamilyTree, 23 and Me, and Heritage Quest will be discussed. Come and learn how to apply your DNA results to your family history.

February 19, 2019 Rural Stearns County Newspapers Project
Director of the Sauk Centre Historical Society, Jim Schloegl will share the history of the “Rural Obituary Project” and will show everyone how to sort and gain other useful information from the regional newspapers that have been indexed.  The index to over 20,000 obituaries will be available to purchase on a CD, and as many new computers don’t have a CD drive, those that bring their own flash drive can have a copy of the index at the event with the same files.   The cost of a CD is $10 and the cost to have the files transferred to your flash drive is $5.

And

How to Use Your Find A Grave Research
St. Cloud Area Genealogists Board Member, Reggie Mohs will teach you how to use the research you discover on the Find a Grave website. It is not just a resource to look up a final resting place but may also tell you more about the person and about their family members, ancestors and descendants.  It can be a way for you to connect with unknown or little-known family members.
