St. Cloud Area Genealogists

We are a non-profit organization that strives to make your family history research an enriching and rewarding experience.  Our monthly meetings include guest speakers who provide educational presentations to teach ways to prepare a research plan, how to evaluate evidence, techniques to discover online and non-digitized resources, and so much more.

The St. Cloud Area Genealogists meet the third Tuesday of the month - January - May and September - November at the Stearns History Museum.  Meetings start at 7:00 pm.  Cost: Free will donation for non-members.

For more information, contact St. Cloud Area Genealogists Librarian Dan Schroeder at or (320) 685-3629.

Upcoming Meetings

November 20  Maps and Land Records in Genealogy
Cartographer Ben Carlson has created maps for a variety of published works over the years, including a book on his own family history. In addition, Ben has found that maps and other property information can be invaluable tools for conducting genealogical research. In this presentation, he will discuss how maps can be a useful way to present information in your own family history, and how to use them correctly and effectively. You will also learn how to interpret and utilize plat books, property deeds & abstracts, legal property descriptions, homestead patents, fire insurance maps, aerial photos, and more, to pinpoint your family's geography.

January 15, 2019  Finding Family Through DNA by Gretchen Leisen.

She will explain how to find relatives through DNA testing. Various DNA tests including Ancestry, FamilyTree, 23 and Me, and Heritage Quest will be discussed. Come and learn how to apply your DNA results to your family history.

Our premier organization is for everyone from the beginner to the most advanced family historian.  Our members research their ancestors from varying locations within Minnesota, throughout the United States, and from foreign countries. Whether you have Minnesota connections or not, we invite you to join us in pursuit of your family history.  Joining our organization is a great way to propel your research forward and for connecting with a network of people who share your interest in family history.
