History lays the groundwork for strong, resilient communities. No place really becomes a community until it is wrapped in human memory: family stories, tribal traditions, civic commemorations. No place is a community until it has awareness of its history. Our connections and commitment to one another are strengthened when we share stories and experiences. A new quilt exhibit, “Granite City Rocks,” showcases the work of the St. Cloud Heritage Quilters.
Thirty one 24-by-24-inch quilts were designed by members as part of a recent group challenge. Each participant randomly chose one of two fabrics that resemble granite quarried from the St. Cloud area – Cold Spring Black and Cold Spring Charcoal Black. The “granite” fabric had to be used for the binding and at least one square inch had to be used within the quilts. The fabric could not be changed and covered up by dyes, paint or stitching. The exhibit runs through September.
Mission: The Stearns History Museum connects people with the power of history and culture, shaping the future of Stearns County by collecting, preserving, and interpreting its historical resources.
Vision: We envision a community where citizens honor their diverse history and recognize that the past is relevant to the present and is a road map to the future.
